Katherine (Katie) Kireburns is a respected educator and clinician in dental hygiene and expanded‑function dental assisting, bringing experience from public health, private practice, pediatrics, periodontics, orthodontics, and academia. As the Founder of Kireburns Continuing Education, she is committed to elevating professional standards through accessible, evidence‑based learning. A Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) and Expanded‑Function Dental Assistant (EFDA), Katie earned her Master of Education in Adult and Higher Education in 2020. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Dental Health at the University of Maine at Augusta, teaching in both the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting/EFDA programs. Her professional strengths include preventive dental hygiene, restorative expanded‑function procedures, and dental pain management, with specialized experience in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide instruction. Katie is passionate about teaching and mentoring, helping students and colleagues grow into confident, capable dental professionals. She believes strongly that the dental community deserves high‑quality, unbiased continuing education and is dedicated to providing supportive, nonjudgmental learning environments.

    Katie has experience in academia teaching students how to administer local anesthesia. She would be happy to help you or your team become more comfortable with landmarks, injections and/or fulcrums.

    Katie has experience in academia with training assistants, EFDAs and hygienists. You could be looking a simple clinical skill or something more complex. It is always worth asking to see if we she can help!
